At OpenAI, our mission is to advance AI technology and ensure it is accessible and beneficial to everyone. Today, we are thrilled to introduce our latest model, GPT-4o, along with a suite of new tools for ChatGPT users at no additional cost.

GPT-4o is our newest flagship model, offering GPT-4-level intelligence with enhanced speed and capabilities in text, voice, and vision. This advanced model significantly improves the way ChatGPT understands and discusses images. For instance, you can now upload a menu written in a foreign language and engage with GPT-4o to translate it, learn about the food’s history and significance, and receive personalized recommendations. Future updates will enable more natural, real-time voice conversations and the ability to interact with ChatGPT via live video. Imagine showing a live sports game to ChatGPT and having it explain the rules to you in real time. We plan to launch these capabilities in a new Voice Mode alpha, initially available to Plus users, in the coming weeks.

To enhance global accessibility, GPT-4o’s language capabilities have been upgraded in terms of quality and speed. ChatGPT now supports over 50 languages for sign-up, login, user settings, and more. We are gradually rolling out GPT-4o to ChatGPT Plus and Team users, with Enterprise access to follow shortly. Additionally, ChatGPT Free users will start experiencing GPT-4o with some usage limits. Plus users will enjoy message limits up to five times greater than free users, while Team and Enterprise users will have even higher limits.

Free users will have a capped number of messages with GPT-4o, based on usage and demand. Once this limit is reached, ChatGPT will seamlessly switch to GPT-3.5, ensuring uninterrupted conversations.

In addition, we are launching a new ChatGPT desktop app for macOS, designed for seamless integration into your daily computer activities. With a simple keyboard shortcut (Option + Space), you can instantly ask ChatGPT questions. The app also allows you to take and discuss screenshots directly. Voice conversations are now possible from your computer, starting with the Voice Mode available at launch, and GPT-4o’s new audio and video capabilities are on the horizon. Whether brainstorming ideas, preparing for an interview, or discussing a topic, you can start a voice conversation by tapping the headphone icon in the app.

Starting today, the macOS app is available to Plus users, with broader availability in the coming weeks. A Windows version is also slated for release later this year.

Lastly, we’re introducing a fresh look for ChatGPT, featuring a friendlier and more conversational design. Users will notice a new home screen, message layout, and more enhancements aimed at improving the user experience.
